Mobile stats to help IT leaders factor mobile into budgeting

A strong mobile strategy is a must have for organizations today in order to better compete and to keep employees happy and at their most productive levels and happy.

In light of that, Business 2 Community recently offered some mobile technology stats taken from various sources to help IT directors factor mobile into their budgets.

From IT workers, to the general workforce, to consumers, IT leaders should consider the following:

Mobile adoption

• 55 percent of the adult population of Canada regularly used smartphones in 2013, up from 33 percent in 2012.

• 87 percent of consumers still prefer PC or laptop purchases with e-commerce, due to security and product quality concerns.

Mobile traffic

• Between the first quarters of 2012 and 2013, the share of website traffic coming through mobile devices nearly doubled, reaching 25 percent of the total share.

• The mobile share of web traffic has dramatically increased globally over the past two years. The increase in North America from 2010 to 2012 was 69 percent. But in Asia, the increase was 192 percent over the same period.

Conversion rates

• The conversion rates through tablets exceeded traditional desktops for the first time last year.

• The conversion rate for smartphones is one-third compared to tablet devices, and is usually used for browsing and research.
