Facebook to launch redesigned mobile app ads in August
All Facebook mobile app advertising will include Page links, social context, and like, comment and share buttons beginning Aug. 6, Facebook's Calvin Grunewald revealed in a blog post.
The move is part of an effort to align mobile app ads with other ad formats, Grunewald explains.
In addition, desktop app ads will add Page links to their existing like, comment and share buttons, so that desktop and mobile app ads will have the same features as of Aug. 6.
Here is an example of the new mobile app ad format:
Beginning July 2, users will no longer be able to create or edit app ads in the old format. Effective Aug. 6, all desktop and mobile app ads in the old format will be migrated to the new format.
"You should create new mobile app ads and desktop app ads between July 2nd and August 6th as this is the easiest way to ensure your ads will be in the new format, associated with the Pages you want," advises Grunewald.
Facebook is increasing looking at mobile advertising as a revenue generator. A full 59 percent of Facebook's overall ad revenue came from mobile in the first quarter of this year, a 30 percent jump from the year-ago quarter, FierceMobileIT reported.
To tap into that revenue stream, Facebook launched a mobile ad network in April called Audience Network designed to enable mobile advertisers to extend campaigns "beyond Facebook and into other mobile apps."
