Remember Intel's Atom platform [1], a new chipset aimed squarely at the UMPCs and MIDs of the future? Well, Intel has gone ahead and announced pricing for its forthcoming Atom chips and they're looking tantalizingly cheap. OEMs will be able to snag the Atom N270 notebook CPU for a mere $44 (in quantities of 1000 or more), which seems to suggest that forthcoming UMPCs and MIDs based on Centrino Atom really will be as cheap as Intel has been claiming. What's more, the company revealed pricing for two more mobile chips, the 2.16Ghz Celeron 585 and the 2.0Ghz 575. Both are entry-level, 65nm Centrinos and will run you $107 and $86, respectively.
