HTC embeds SoundHound music app on Android smartphones

SoundHoundHTC Corporation will preload mobile music solutions provider SoundHound's search and discovery application across its suite of Android smartphones. HTC initially will embed SoundHound on Desire HD and Desire Z devices shipping to the European market, but will expand to additional smartphones and international regions in the future.

SoundHound's Sound2Sound technology promises to identify sound inputs like music and speech from any audio source in as little as four seconds--according to the firm, Sound2Sound recognizes content by extracting features from the input signal and converting it to a Crystal representation. From there, the Input Crystal is matched against a database of Target Crystals derived from searchable content; Target Crystals are automatically generated from a range of data formats including recorded music and user voice recordings as well as non-audio data like traditional text-based content. SoundHound supports mobile platforms including Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Symbian.
