A man in Guangzhou, China, was reportedly killed when the cell phone in his chest pocket exploded without warning. The force of the explosion apparently severed a major artery in his neck, resulting in the death of the Chinese man.
While a faulty mobile phone battery is likely the culprit here, no other information is available at this point--such as the brand of battery or mobile phone. Exploding mobile phones were not unheard of in China though, with seven reported incidents since 2002. For sure, I'll stick to original mobile phone batteries in the future; and keep my phone from my pockets in future.
