T-Mobile USA expands Bobsled VoIP app to iOS and Android

T-Mobile USA is extending its Bobsled free VoIP calling solution with the introduction of applications optimized for devices running Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android.

T-Mobile's Bobsled is now available for mobile.

Powered by integrated voice services Vivox's VoiceEverywhere technology, Bobsled enables users to place free Internet calls to friends logged into Facebook chat, eliminating the need for conventional dialing. Neither Facebook user needs to be a T-Mobile subscriber; only the caller is required to have installed Bobsled.

The new apps--available as free downloads via Apple's App Store and Google's Android Market--support free calling from the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad as well as Android smartphones and tablets. In addition, the revamped Bobsled now offers expanded dial-out functionality from most web browsers, supporting free calls from PCs and Macs to any mobile or landline number across the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico.

T-Mobile USA first issued Bobsled in mid-April but quickly disabled the service, hinting that consumers confused it with official Facebook communication solutions. Facebook later confirmed the Bobsled app violated the social network's policies.
