Phone lets data transfer bypass hotspot connection

The recent CeBit show was a playground of new and emerging mobile devices and technologies, one of which was Samsung Electronics' ultrawideband (UWB) phones boasting ad-hoc routing that promises to support wireless connectivity between phones and set-top boxes. The big feature is the ability to transfer large data files from one home to another without having to rely on GSM networks. The supporting networking technology--ad hoc routing--lets phone users chat, play music and video files, all without having to tap a wireless hotspot or a GSM network. Article [1]
