Hands on: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 is a pretty sleek-looking phone and its beauty isn't just skin-deep either: it sports a touch UI, sliding hiptop-style QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, Windows Mobile 6.1 and HSDPA.

Big deal....

Sony Ericsson wouldn't know the first thing about launching a smart phone tailored for the needs of the US market plus they are late, late, late. They have ignored this niche now for several years. This is simply a "me too" product.

This phone is very slick. I had a chance to demo it at CTIA in Las Vegas last week. It will rival the iPhone and any other Palm/RIM device. The Windows 6.1 OS is a big step towards S/E understanding the market.

I will buy this phone.

There are always some SE haters... And I think you'll find that SE does rather well in the higher end of the phone market if you look at the hard numbers.

But anyway. I've played with this phone and the screen is gorgeous. The "virtual desktop" / panels interface seems to work very well.

I didn't buy an iPhone because sometimes I need a keyboard and tactile feedback and this design solves that problem for me.
