Asphalt 8: Airborne - Best new Android, iOS apps of August 2013
Eight installments on, Gameloft's blockbuster Asphalt racing series shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, Asphalt 8: Airborne is arguably the most entertaining and visually dazzling chapter to date, bolstered by high-speed aerial stunts that take full advantage of the game's new physics engine.
Like its predecessors, Asphalt 8 is not intended for gamers who favor mind-bending puzzles, character development or narrative complexity--it's about the need for speed, no more and no less, and it doesn't disappoint. Gameloft hands you the virtual keys to close to 50 fully-licensed high-performance vehicles including the Lamborghini Veneno, Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari FXX, complete with photo-realistic graphics and high-fidelity audio effects. The track environments are no less impressively detailed, leading racers from the Nevada Desert to Iceland.
The biggest change this time around is the introduction of ramps enabling ludicrously over-the-top barrel rolls and 360-degree jumps--racers can even maneuver their car through the air while in the middle of stunt moves. Asphalt 8: Airborne is further tricked out with simultaneous multiplayer support for up to eight opponents, asynchronous competition, leaderboards and achievements. It's one hell of a ride.
