eHighlighter - best productivity apps
eHighlighter, introduced earlier this fall, is a handy tool for students, educators and business professionals alike. The apps works by using a user's iPhone camera to photograph printed text such as a book or magazine. Then, from within the app, users can use their fingers to select the text they'd like to save. eHighlighter then uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to read the text within the image and create a digital archive.
Users can then access a transcribed version of the highlighted text within seconds from the phone or through the Web on another device. eHighlighter is especially helpful for research purposes, as users can create and manage citations by scanning a book's barcode. On the enterprise side, users can share notes that they've saved and sorted with other app users or through email, Dropbox or Evernote.
The app is currently limited to iOS. "We've had a ton of calls for Android, which we are definitely considering, however we want to get through a few iterations of iOS before we branch into a new codebase," founder & CEO Parker Holcomb told FierceMobileContent.
However: Again, the app is limited to one platform. There's also still progress to be made with OCR technology to really finetune the highlighting process.
