Facebook, Instagram most visited social apps in March, Mobidia finds

According to new findings provided exclusively to FierceMobileContent by Mobidia, Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Facebook's Instagram service were the most-viewed mobile social apps last month.

The findings, from Mobidia, show that the average smartphone user spends around 450 minutes per month in Facebook's mobile app. Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, comes in second with around 300 minutes. Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest follow, in that order.

The findings are key for advertisers and others looking for mobile apps with the most traction in the market. They also indicate Facebook is positioned to remain a dominant player in the mobile social networking field.

Mobidia's findings are collected from millions of global smartphone and tablet users with a completely anonymous and optional methodology. Specifically, the data is obtained through Mobidia's app that is installed on users' handsets. Mobidia said the device-based approach provides a unique view of mobile data usage trends that includes cellular (LTE and 3G) and Wi-Fi usage and specific application usage in terms of time and data.
