M.dot - Best apps of October 2012
Small businesses are struggling to go mobile: Just 26 percent of SMB websites in the U.S. are optimized for mobile device browsers, according to Web.com data issued earlier this year. But mobile-optimized sites are a necessity, not a luxury. A survey conducted this summer by independent research firms Sterling Research and SmithGeiger on behalf of Google reveals that 74 percent of smartphone owners are more likely to return to websites that deliver a superior mobile user experience, and 67 percent of respondents say that when they visit a mobile-friendly site, they're more likely to buy the products and services it offers.
While a growing number of startups offer desktop-based tools for creating mobile business sites, M.dot sidesteps PCs in favor of letting users do the work within a native application-based environment. The free M.dot app starts by offering small business owners their choice of template--from there, you fill in the necessary information, add features like click-to-call buttons, maps, blogs and galleries, and roughly five minutes later, you're done. Users can also scrape the images and text from their existing site to create a mobile-ready version. If you're a small business owner, M.dot is a very big deal.
