Acer Android smartphone sales exceeding expectations
Newbie smartphone vendor Acer, the world's second largest computer maker, announced that sales of its touchscreen Android phone, called Liquid, have exceeded expectations. The company is experiencing shortages of the device.
Acer said it expects to ship at least 250,000 smartphones by the end of this quarter, compared with its previous expectation of 150,000 to 200,000 devices shipped. The phone features a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 5-megapixel camera.
Acer said it anticipates that all smartphone sales, including those running Microsoft Windows Mobile, to come in at between 2 million and 3 million this year, according to Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer in an interview with Bloomberg.
