Adobe extends Flash Builder 4.5 to iOS and RIM

Tools

Adobe Systems extended its Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 and Flex 4.5 software solutions to Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and iPad as well as Research In Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, promising developers a single platform to build applications optimized for distribution via the App Store, BlackBerry App World and Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market.

Available as a stand-alone solution or as part of Adobe's Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium and Master Collection (first issued for Android in April), Flash Builder 4.5 includes support for ActionScript and mobile Flex projects along with improved designer-developer collaboration tools, enhanced cross-browser testing and mobile emulation and on-device debugging. Flex 4.5 touts productivity enhancements allowing developers to more efficiently build applications for the desktop, web and mobile platforms via best practice code templates, code completion and code generation.

The April launch of Creative Suite 5.5 heralded significant changes to Adobe's release strategy: Moving forward, the firm will offer major Creative Suite product introductions at 24-month intervals, boosted by significant mid-cycle releases. Adobe now also offers subscription-based pricing plans, providing access to Adobe Photoshop beginning at $35 per month, Adobe Design Premium CS5.5 starting at $95 per month and Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection for $129 per month.
