Adobe: Millions of iPhone customers have tried to download Flash

According to an Adobe blog post, some 7 million iPhone customers, as of December 2009, attempted to download Flash, which isn't enabled on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Seven million iPhone users have tried to download Flash according to an Adobe blog post. Mark Doherty, Flash platform evangelist at Adobe Systems focused on mobile and devices, said: "A little while ago I blogged about our new iPhone page at the Flash Player download center, the same site where hundreds of millions of users download and upgrade Flash every year. We were amazed by the numbers of hits received from iPhone OS devices, from users seeking the Flash Player to play back rich content from their favorite sites. Users that, before we created the special page, had no idea that Apple do not want them viewing the Internet as they see it today."

While these devices, including the recently announced iPad, don't support Flash, more than 85 percent of websites use Flash.

"It has now been reported that over seven million attempts were made by users to download the player by December 2009, that's up from three million attempts in June 2009," Doherty said on the FlashMobileBlog post.

Recently, Apple CEO Steve Jobs reportedly called Flash buggy when he addressed employees and said that HTML5 would become the future of the Internet.

Meanwhile, Google announced that Android will offer full support for Adobe Systems' Flash 10.1 runtime. Palm also vowed to support Flash 10.1 on its webOS platform, and said Flash would be made available to its Pre and Pre Plus devices sometime this month.
