Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile expands to Android developers
Software provider Adobe Systems announced the release of Photoshop.com Mobile for Android 1.1, promising consumers a series of new photo sharing capabilities and editing effects--in addition, Adobe launched a new developer site enabling Android programmers to leverage Photoshop.com Mobile editor capabilities in creating their own applications. According to Adobe, Photoshop.com Mobile for Android 1.1 features effects like Vibrant (to boost photo colors) and Pop (to create pop art-inspired images)--Soft Black and White as well as Warm Vintage tools enable image aging effects, while one-touch Vignette Blur, White Glow and Rainbow effects add more contemporary effects. Adobe adds that all edits and changes can be undone.
In announcing the new Photoshop.com Mobile for Android 1.1 developer website, available here, Adobe goes out of its way to tweak Apple, which has consistently declined to support the Adobe Flash multimedia platform across its own mobile products: "Unlike iPhone, the Android platform allows us to make the Photoshop.com editor broadly available to developers so they can provide it within any application they are working on," said Adobe vice president and general manager of digital imaging and rich media solutions Doug Mack in a prepared statement. "Photoshop functionality can then easily be accessed from an online auction, real estate or social media application so users can quickly fix photos and make them look their best, before being showcased."
It's not the first time Adobe has lashed out against Apple--in late January, Adobe took the computing giant to task for its decision to withhold support for Flash from the forthcoming iPad tablet device. Writing on the Adobe Flash Platform Blog, marketing group manager Adrian Ludwig contended that without Flash support, "there's something important missing from Apple's approach to connecting consumers to content... It looks like Apple is continuing to impose restrictions on their devices that limit both content publishers and consumers."
