All about keyboards

As a result of a one-year study into the typing habits of some 30 employees who volunteered to have their keystrokes logged, Lenovo has released its T400s range of laptops with "Escape" and "Delete" keys elongated along the vertical. I saw the press photo of it, and it looks quite good actually.

The entire episode got me thinking about the topic of the keyboard. Seriously, I am someone who is quite particular about my keyboards--given that writing is very closely tied to putting food on the table for me.

I am currently using the Logitech MX 5500 Revolution cordless desktop, which other than the fact that it is wireless, sports a key counter on its LCD display. Cool eh? Anyway, after about 10 months of usage, I know for a fact that I have hammered out approximately 8 million keystrokes. Of course, I do quite a bit of work on my laptop too, so let's just add another 1 or 2 million additional keystrokes.

Now that I've established just how much I type, just what recommendation would I put forward to improve the humble layout? Simple: Maybe it's time someone removed the CAPS LOCK key. Honestly, when was the last time you used it anyway? - Paul

My pet peeve is netbooks which put 'home' and 'end' on the Fn version of PgUp and PgDn. I use Home and End far more than I page up and down, and accidental mis-keying without the Fn is much less dramatic when you find yourself at the end of a line, rather than lost somewhere a page away from where you were.
