American Express, Scvngr team for 'couponless' loyalty offers
Credit services giant American Express will partner with mobile location solutions provider Scvngr to kick off a multi-city pilot offering consumers "couponless" loyalty rewards.
American Express and Scvngr will kick off the trial partnerships with offers with Levi's.
The service, which leverages Google Ventures-backed Scvngr's LevelUp progressive offers platform, allows users to redeem deals by enrolling and using their AmEx cards, eliminating the need for punch cards and other loyalty program staples; as cardmembers use their cards at participating merchants, LevelUp savings are automatically delivered via statement credit to the AmEx account. Cardmembers will also receive mobile alerts via the Android mobile operating system's new push notification technology indicating that a statement credit is on its way and that they have "leveled up," unlocking the next, richer offer from that merchant.
American Express and Scvngr will launch the trial in partnership with apparel chain Levi's--the merchant will roll out the LevelUp program at its locations in San Francisco, Boston and King of Prussia, Penn. LevelUp offers start with a $20 reward for spending $10, followed by $30 for $10 and $50 for $10 premiums.
In March, American Express teamed with mobile social network foursquare for a similar solution enabling consumers to redeem merchant offers within the foursquare app sans coupons or special codes. Kicking off at the South by Southwest conference, the pilot program gives foursquare users the tools to "load" offers to their AmEx card and use the card at the merchant's location.
