App Annie: 'Candy Crush Saga' dominates iOS game revenues, downloads
King.com's Candy Crush Saga outpaced all other mobile games in Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store during May 2013, generating more downloads and revenues than any other title, according to mobile analytics firm App Annie's latest Index for Games.
Candy Crush Saga topped Android and iOS game downloads in May.
Kabam's Fast and Furious 6: The Game follows Candy Crush Saga on iOS downloads, trailed by Gameloft's Iron Man: The Game, Orangenose Studios' Hardest Game Ever 2 and Rovio Entertainment's Angry Birds Friends. GungHo Online Entertainment's Puzzle & Dragons ranks second in iOS revenues in May, ahead of Clash of Clans and Hay Day (both from publisher Supercell) and Electronic Arts' The Simpsons: Tapped Out.
Electronic Arts led all publishers on total iOS game downloads in May, retaining the top spot for the fourth consecutive month on the strength of recent hits like Tetris Blitz, Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops and Snoopy Coasts. Gameloft is second, Rovio is third, King.com is fourth and Zynga (NASDAQ:ZNGA) is fifth. Supercell led on iOS game revenues for the month, topping GungHo Online, King.com, EA and GREE.
Candy Crush Saga also topped Android game downloads on the rival Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Play storefront, but trails Puzzle & Dragons on monthly Android revenues, App Annie adds. Kiloo's Subway Surfers is second in Google Play downloads, ahead of Imangi Studios' Temple Run 2, Halfbrick Studios' Fruit Ninja Free and Zakeh's Pou. Devsisters' Cookie Run, CJ E&M's Fives and WeMade's Windrunner follow Puzzle & Dragons and Candy Crush Saga on Google Play revenues.
Rovio dominated Google Play downloads in May, fending off EA, King.com, Imangi and ZeptoLab. GungHo set the pace on monthly Android revenues, beating out CJ E&M, LINE, DeNA and WeMade.
Action and arcade games were common among the top 10 downloaded games in both the App Store and Google Play in May, App Annie reports. From a revenue perspective, role-playing games led all other App Store categories, while puzzle games dominated the Google Play top 10.
