Apple releases new iOS 6 to consumers today
Apple will roll out its new iOS 6 operating system overhaul to iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, new iPad, iPad 2 and fourth-generation iPod touch devices later today, reportedly beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET. According to Apple, products running iOS 5 can download iOS 6 over the air--consumers may also connect their device directly to iTunes.
Apple will preload iOS 6 on its new iPhone 5, slated for release on Sept. 21. First announced at Apple's annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June, iOS 6 promises deep integration with Facebook and introduces a new Maps platform to replace Google's Maps data. Also noteworthy: Passbook, a new app that stores and updates boarding passes, retailer loyalty cards, movie ticket apps and related consumer information and documents. Article
