BlackBerry support coming back to Nokia's E-Series smartphones

An interview with head of Nokia Messaging, Tom Furlong, revealed that RIM is poised to bring BlackBerry support back to Nokia's E-Series smartphones. Nokia used to provide support for BlackBerry services on its smartphones, but discontinued it last year. The leading phone maker also dropped development of its own corporate email product at the same time, opting instead to partner with Microsoft and IBM to provide the services. Such a move allowed Nokia to focus on developing more business-centric phones to challenge RIM in the enterprise space.

According to Furlong, "We are in the interim period of time when we have dropped support ourselves, and BlackBerry is readying support for their service on Nokia devices." This will certainly bring cheer to die hard fans of Nokia's E-Series smartphones who prefer RIM's BlackBerry offerings.
