Microsoft Azure customers may now take advantage of BlackBerry's enterprise mobility solutions and services, according to a Wednesday announcement made by BlackBerry.

Enterprises that use the Azure cloud platform can now deploy and manage BlackBerry Enterprise Services 12 (BES12) without having to host the data on-premises.

In January, BlackBerry launched Good Secure EMM Suites by BlackBerry with BES12, and more offerings in the Good Suites will be coming to Azure soon. BlackBerry acquired Good Technology last year.

The BlackBerry-Microsoft partnership is a part of a growing trend of enterprise mobility management, or EMM, solutions hosted in the cloud versus on-premises, according to Jack Gold of J. Gold Associates.

"By 2017, approximately 75 percent of EMM solutions will be deployed in the cloud, with on-premise solutions mostly reserved for legacy installations," Gold said in a statement.

"Further, high capability EMM installations beyond simple mobile device management will represent 50 percent of deployments, up from 25 percent in 2014. This reflects the ease of enabling higher end capabilities like file management, app stores, single sign on and data security when provisioned by cloud-based software as a service systems," he added.

The announcement also signals a tighter bond between BlackBerry and Microsoft. The future will bring more collaboration between the two companies due to considerable enterprise customer overlap, according to BlackBerry.
