Designed for users who work in demanding environments, the $400 Cat S50c has a 4.7-inch HD Gorilla Glass scratch resistant display that can be used while wearing work gloves or with wet hands.
Cat S50c has been drop tested up to 3.9 feet and waterproof tested in 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. In addition, it is resistant to dust, extreme temperatures, humidity, thermal shocks, vibration and salt mist.
The Cat S50c is also push-to-talk ready so users can communicate with one person or an entire workforce at the push of a button.
The rugged smartphone has a 2 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB FLASH, expandable Micro SD up to 64 GB, and a 2630mAh battery that provides a full day of power.
"The nature of some jobs requires a much more robust device to cope with every day activities, but without compromising the user's experience. This device offers professionals the resilience needed when using their smartphone in challenging environments, but it also offers the peace of mind of avoiding expensive repairs in less careful usages," commented Francisco Jeronimo, research director at IDC.
