Cellfish Media mixes it up with DJ Envy


Mobile content provider Cellfish Media announced a partnership with radio personality DJ Envy to distribute "The Mobile Mixtape," an exclusive weekly hip-hop mix spotlighting new singles and underground hits. DJ Envy, whose New York City-based syndicated radio show boasts an audience of more than 10 million listeners nationally, will compile each Mobile Mixtape, available as both full-track downloads and ringtones--subscribers will receive seven new ringtones each month, daily hip-hop news alerts and video blogs. Cellfish's partnership with DJ Envy also includes an integrated on-air and web promotional campaign, advertising in urban music publications, an online viral initiative and a street marketing campaign.

Over 500,000 mixtapes are sold every week, primarily to consumers in the 18-to-24-year-old demographic. "If I have a hot mixtape, it'll sell out," said DJ Envy. "A new album will be hot only for a few weeks, then die down. That's what the kids want."
