Cisco announces iPhone security app
Cisco announced a free iPhone application designed to help IT departments respond to threats to the corporate network.
The app, called SIO To Go, is networked to Cisco's Security Intelligence Operations and sends out real time notifications of attacks on the corporate network by utilizing information from some 700,000 sensors at ISPs, the company's sites and other locations to determine threats.
JD Power and Associates recently said that Apple's iPhone ranked No. 1 in customer satisfaction for smartphones in business, beating out Research In Motion's BlackBerry. More companies like Cisco are beginning to target the enterprise via the iPhone.
Some security analysts, however, question the app since it has to be downloaded and installed via iTunes or directly to the iPhone. Many corporations prefer to have more control over the app deployment process. Cisco said the app will become available soon.
