Citrix unveils updates to Podio, ShareFile mobile apps
Virtualization firm Citrix (NASDAQ: CTXS) has announced new versions of its Podio social collaboration apps for iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as rich content editing capabilities for its ShareFile enterprise app for iOS devices.
For iPhone users, Citrix is redesigning its Podio platform to speed up access to their workspace apps with a slide menu and to provide voice-over capabilities for vision-impaired users. For Android users, the virtualization firm is providing a comprehensive task manager, as well as calendar features for its Podio platform.
In addition, Citrix has expanded the languages supported by Podio to Dutch and Japanese too.
"In today's competitive environment, smartphones and social tools help employees to work unhindered even if they are away from their workplace. Adaptation of cloud based collaboration tool like Podio helps organizations to arrange team communication or share data and content with a specific group. Podio allows users to build their own business application and stay connected with anyone from anywhere in their own device," observed Zacks Equity Research in a report on the Podio upgrades.
According to an IDC survey, 79 percent of enterprises have developed enterprise social software, with mobility playing an important role in that development.
Additionally, Citrix is making available rich content editing capabilities for its ShareFile enterprise app for iOS devices. As a result, iOS users can create and edit Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Office and Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) PDF documents from their mobile devices. These capabilities will be coming to other mobile platforms soon, the company said.
iOS users can create, review and edit Microsoft Office documents within the ShareFile app and edit them with tools that are available from their desktop Office applications. In addition, they can annotate Adobe PDF files within ShareFile and use editing and annotation capabilities even when offline.
In an interview with the Tab Times, Bernardo de Albergaria, general manager for SaaS products and markets at Citrix Online, said: "What we sell is the ability to make the experience much more secure. And with the new version of ShareFile you can edit and create Word or Excel files on your tablet."
