Could Windows Mobile 6.5 be debuting next month?
According to unconfirmed reports from neowin.net, Microsoft is expected to unveil Windows Mobile 6.5 at the Mobiles World Congress in Barcelona next month. Despite the lack of a formal announcement, the existence of Windows Mobile 6.5 was established by none other than Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who mentioned it in an unrelated speech. Of course, Windows Mobile 6.5 is but an interim measure until the release of Windows Mobile 7.
Microsoft is also expected to unveil three new mobile service offerings called SkyBox, SkyLine and SkyMarket. SkyBox is a service which lets users sync their phone information with the web and which provides automatic data backup and restoration. SkyLine, on the other hand, is targeted squarely at the SMB, and allows small businesses to easily setup their phones with Exchange hosting. Finally, SkyMarket--which we wrote about last year--is positioned as a competitor to Apple's AppStore. The Mobile World Congress is definitely the place to watch.
