Dell finally enters smartphone market

After more than a year of speculation, Dell has jumped into the smartphone market, introducing the Dell Mini 3 that is launching with China Mobile, the world's largest mobile operator, and Brazilian carrier Claro.

The device, which runs on the Google Android OS, appears to be just the beginning of Dell's smartphone initiative. According to recent regulatory filings, Dell may be close to entering the US smartphone market too. Earlier this year, Dell filed for permission with the FCC to sell its Mini 3iX smartphone in the US. The commission approved the application on Nov. 6.

According to documents, Dell is expected to reveal more details of its product specifications on April 21.
