If you have been following news of the Palm Pre--announced at CES earlier this month--you have heard about Palm's new webOS operating system. Similar to how the company revolutionized the field with its Palm OS-based PDAs more than 10 years ago, the new webOS looks set to blaze a similar path.
This time though, Palm has its eyes firmly fixed on the web. The webOS is designed around the idea of synchronizing user data--such as calendar and contact information--with a whole plethora of disparate and unrelated online sources. Some examples of these would be Google's Gmail and contacts, and Facebook.
However, for users who prefer to sync their data to a desktop, a company called CompanionLink Software is creating the requisite synchronization software for two-way USB sync of various data--such as contacts, address, phone numbers and reminders, between the desktop and the Palm Pre.
Says Rushang Shah, Director of Marketing at CompanionLink Software, "CompanionLink will become the missing sync software between the Palm Pre and CRM solutions like ACT! by Sage. Our software will automate that entire sync process for people who need the data on their Palm Pre."
There is no word though on when the application will be released, though pricing for CompanyLink's current mobile synchronization solutions starts from $49.95.
