Given the findings of a survey (see the Worth Knowing section below for more info) in which mobile users clearly indicate they're not too worried about security, the news last week about a new security specification bodes well for those of us who are smart enough to be worried about mobile and wireless security.

The spec is under development by the Trusted Computing Group, a vendor effort that includes Nokia and Samsung Electronics which has proven itself invaluable in building security standards for servers, networks and PCs. The group just released a few of the "use cases" that illustrate the mobile security areas which the new standard will cover, such as securing lost phones, managing patches and allowing for secure e-payment processes. It's great news for both users, enterprises and vendors obviously, and if the spec comes out on time as planned, vendors will likely start producing supporting devices by end of 2006. - Judy
