Editor's Corner
I read an interesting case study this week at eWeek on how a food distributor's CFO not only solved a few business issues with a revamped mobile strategy, but, of course, also managed to save his company some big bucks as alternative options would have been much more expensive. Musco Food Corp's sales force is completely mobile and getting data and access to information plays a critical role in good order procurement and solid customer service. As of mid last year, the sales reps had to call into voice mail boxes to get pricing updates, but thanks to collaboration with vendors the company established small databases providing the same information via the reps' cell phones. It's a very clever example of how wireless is helping push business forward and also drives down to the bottom line in terms of value.
