Editor's Corner

Just when you think Google has hit every nook and cranny, it now clearly has a wireless service playbook started. An article at InfoWorld details how the search giant is working with mobile gear vendors to figure out how the devices can use municipal WiFi networks the best way. The quest is to get mobile users over to Google's network and to get Google on board as the primary wireless network provider for San Francisco, where Google is anxious to build a bigger network. While the political climate is not a comfortable zone for the search giant, which acknowledges it's having trouble navigating government bureaucracy, there are some other legitimate hurdles that Google may not be able to climb over very easily. They've got an ingenious plan, though, on how to make money off giving residents free wireless access. If it all works out it will just be another deep notch of achievement. - Judy
