There's an interesting article over at Government Computer News that discusses the increasing use of mobile and wireless technologies by the federal government. If you've been following recent news reports, you know that Uncle Sam has been getting hammered on a consistent basis for poor IT security and attention to network security. The column, written by Tad Anderson, a VP for Dutko Worldwide and former associate administrator in the Office of E-Government and IT in the Office of Management and Budget, points out that despite the constant criticism, agencies are moving ahead in issuing proposals for more wireless projects.
Though this could simply be an issue of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing, it's unlikely since the people being criticized for botching security are the same ones looking to extend mobility and wireless technologies. It's apparent that many federal agency leaders aren't reading their own government's reports on the issue. Just two years ago the Department of Homeland Security released some serious warning abut wireless network technologies in a report called "Inadequate Security Controls Increase Risks to DHS Wireless Networks." - Judy
