Editor's Corner
As someone who has had only two cell phones in her lifetime, I'm definitely not the norm when it comes to mobile device trends. A recent study reports that most people trade up for a better or snazzier phone every 17 months or so. According to that standard, I should be on my seventh or eighth phone by now. The problem is that every time I set out to look at a new phone, the choices are so overwhelming that I just keep thinking that I should wait and see what features the next slew of device development will bring. That's exactly what I gleamed from a great article last week published at CIO Today. It's not going to be too long before I can wear my cell phone as a necklace and my future phone will alert me as to who's calling using color--without having to even look at the faceplate. There's also phones in development that will read my emotions. Already there's a phone on the market that doesn't have any buttons and one vendor is touting the smallest cell phone in the world. And of course, one new creation that looks like an old creation--a rotary cell phone has actually hit the market. So it's not too surprising that I can never seem to get myself past the display counter to the cashier when I pass a cell phone kiosk these days. -Judy
