Facebook for Windows Phone 8 version 5.0 touts a new navigation bar, improved post sharing, Facebook Timeline views and support for high-resolution photos. The release follows two months after Microsoft issued a beta version of the app, asking users to test drive the new changes and enhancements and then pass along bug reports, feature requests and other feedback. "Your help and support has been tremendous," said Microsoft editor Michael Stroh.

Microsoft is also working to update its Facebook app for Windows Phone 7, Stroh added. He said the WP7 revamp will reach consumers "later in the summer."

Facebook's total mobile monthly active users eclipsed desktop users earlier this year and reached 751 million in the first quarter of 2013, a year-over-year increase of 54 percent. The social network's mobile-only MAUs also increased to 189 million, up from 157 million in the previous quarter.
