Forrester: iPhone corporate users more happy

Three major companies have successfully deployed thousands of Apple's iPhone smartphones in the enterprise, and the users are happier for it. In the study done by research firm Forrester Research Inc, "The iPhones make workers happier and more productive." The three companies in the study were Kraft Foods Inc, Oracle Corp and Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc.

To elaborate, Ted Schadler, who authored the report noted that, "In this era of technology populism, where consumer IT is often better than enterprise IT, it sometimes just makes sense to give employees the freedom to choose the tools they want."

First of all, I can definitely say that I would be happy too, if FierceMarkets--the company that publishes FierceMobileIT--were to give me an iPhone free of charge. However, I'm not too sure what kind of productivity advantages it would give me. I suspect the situation would be similar in most organizations. Over at Oracle at least, the company appears to be actively building collaboration and business applications to allow workers access to corporate data on-the-go.

What I find ironic though, was the revelation that the biggest problem with deploying iPhones in the enterprise are related to issues with enterprise functionalities such as calendaring, device management and "guaranteed message delivery."  I'll talk more about this in today's editorial.
