Galaxy Tab to come with HD video conferencing

Polycom said it has made a deal with Samsung to embed high-definition video conferencing services into Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablet device.

While not available on the devices that go on sale later this week, Polycom said it expects versions of the tablet with its HD video conferencing service to to ship during the next two quarters.

Joseph Burton, Polycom's chief technology and strategy officer, told Computerworld that Galaxy Tab users will be able to connect with one another via video conferencing sessions using Polycom's software and also connect to other standards-based telepresence and video conferencing systems and apps.

The Galaxy Tab goes on sale at T-Mobile today, while Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) will begin selling the tablet on Thursday. Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) will launch the device on Sunday.
