Google hints at enterprise version of Nexus One smartphone

The highly touted Nexus One smartphone offered by Google and running on its Android platform isn't very enterprise friendly but it is attractive given its 1 GHz processor and other high-end features. But Google's Andy Rubin said on Friday that the search giant is looking to introduce a second generation of the Nexus One, which is manufactured by HTC, with the enterprise in mind.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg, Rubin said the next generation will feature a hardware keyboard, but declined to give anymore details. Google, however, must make many improvements before the Nexus One for the enterprise will be ready for the enterprise. For instance, the Android 2.1 platform, on which the Nexus One runs, does not support any Exchange policies, although the platform does minimally support the Exchange ActiveSynch protocol.
