Google kills Glass social media accounts, focuses on Enterprise Edition


Google Glass can no longer be found on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or any other social media site, and the Google Glass name is essentially dead on social media, according to a discovery by 9to5Google. However, the Enterprise Edition of the Glass technology is just starting to awaken.

Google removed its Glass accounts from all social media channels, reported 9to5Google, and left this message on its Google+ page (which has 1.28 million followers):

"Hi Explorers, we've had a blast hanging out with you on G+ throughout the Explorer Program. From now on, if you have any questions about your Glass, you can get in touch with us here:"

Over a year has passed since Google shut down its Glass Explorer program – which signified to the tech world that Google was shifting away from its consumer-facing smartglasses and possibly focusing on an enterprise version of Google Glass.

Indeed, 9to5Google cited in that same article "multiple people familiar with the matter" when it reported that Glass EE is growing. Partners in the Glass for Work program established by Google have been tinkering with the EE since early last year, according to the article, and recently the Federal Communications Commission released images of the EE version.

Google Glass as a consumer product may have had the final nail put in its coffin by the closure of its social media accounts, but if reports are to be trusted, Glass could be a strong contender in the enterprise wearables market.
