Nexus One gets multitouch capability
Google is addressing a few of the main complaints users have about the Nexus One smartphone, which is only available through Google online. It is adding a multitouch mechanism and a software fix to improve the well-documented 3G connectivity problems.
Google, which has been selling the phone for a month now, said it has started pushing a multitouch and other software updates over the air to Nexus One users this week. Users have complained about the lack of native multitouch utilities on the device. Now they are able to pinch-to-zoom on the device's core browser, gallery and Google Maps applications.
In addition, Google Maps is being updated to version 3.4, which will enable greater synchronization capabilities, personalized search suggestions and a night mode in Google Maps Navigation.
Regarding the 3G connectivity problems, Google said users will receive a downloadable message containing the fix. "This fix won't be immediate, rolling out gradually to phones over the course of a week," the search giant said.
Moreover, it appears Google might be looking to bolster its customer service. Currently, customers can only email their questions to Google, often receiving a reply in three days. But a new job post from Google is looking for a phone support program manager.
