Google has offered developers an early look at version 1.5 of the Android System Development Kit (SDK). I have not had the chance to use an Android-based smartphone yet, but the feature list looks impressive.

Chief among the features would be Stereo Bluetooth support in the form of A2DP and AVCRP profiles--essential for the growing list of Bluetooth headphones, speech recognition devices and APIs for soft keyboards.

I have created a partial list of some of the other features that caught my attention:

  • System-wide Accelerometer-based application rotations.
  • On-screen soft keyboard (works in both portrait and landscape).
  • Browser updated with latest Webkit browser and Squirrelfish JavaScript engines.
  • View Google Talk friends' status in contacts, SMS, MMS, GMail and email applications.
  • Text prediction engine.
  • Video recording and playback.
  • User dictionary for custom words.
  • New Linux kernel (Version 2.6.27).

The final version of Android 1.5 should be out around the end of April.  In the meantime, you can find the full list of features here.
