Google's Android 5.0 Jelly Bean rumored for Q2 debut

Google could launch version 5.0 of its Android mobile operating system as soon as the second quarter of 2012, DigiTimes reports. Citing Taiwan-based supply chain makers, the report suggests Android 5.0 (a.k.a. "Jelly Bean") will further optimize the operating system for tablets while also integrating Google's Chrome system functions "to push dual-operating system designs. Brand vendors can either choose to adopt only Android 5.0 or add Android 5.0 to [Microsoft] Windows 8 devices with the ability to switch between the two OSes without the need to shut down the computer." Some news outlets are questioning the accuracy of the DigiTimes report, noting that the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is still only a few months old and deployed across only a small number of devices.
