Handango, Best Buy partner for in-store app sales

Smartphone content provider Handango announced a partnership with Best Buy to offer mobile applications throughout the big-box retailer's nationwide chain. Per terms of the agreement, Handango will offer Best Buy Mobile customers a catalog of entertainment apps, games and business productivity tools optimized for Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Palm and Symbian S60 smartphones. While Best Buy's in-store digital Mobile Genie system will enable point-of-sale application purchases, Handango's In-Hand client will be custom branded for Best Buy to enable premium downloads after consumers exit the retail premises.

Handango promises it will regularly update Best Buy Mobile's smartphone applications catalog to guarantee consumers the latest downloads. In addition, select Best Buy outlets will offer Mobile App Packs featuring three popular game titles for Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and Palm devices--the games will be preloaded onto Micro SD to offer a plug-and-play experience. In March, Handango inked a similar deal with European mobile device retailer Carphone Warehouse.
