Indian firms embracing enterprise mobility

Indian enterprises are increasingly embracing mobility, with close to three-quarters either planning or rolling out a mobility policy.

That is the finding of a survey of 407 IT managers at Indian enterprises conducted by Indian consulting firm CMR and enterprise mobility firm BlackBerry, according to a report by

Around two-thirds of respondents said that enterprise mobility solutions help their company in collecting real-time data about their mobile workforce, and more than half believe they help in reducing paper work, expenses and administrative time.

However, top concerns of these IT pros include data security (76 percent) and control of devices (62 percent).

"The era of mobile enterprise has arrived" in India, CMR analyst Apalak Ghosh is quoted by Modern Readers as saying. "An entire ecosystem needs to be developed to support enterprise mobility. Design, development, deployment and maintenance of devices and applications will assume critical importance in this process," Ghosh adds.

A study earlier this year by Gartner predicted that mobility would be one of the top strategic technology trends in India this year.

"Swift growth in the prevalence of mobile devices, a decline in their price, and falling data plan costs have the potential to completely transform some business models," explains Gartner.

"Organizations in India are beginning to leverage more personal interactions with greater reach and are also looking to evaluate mobile platforms as a delivery mechanism to provide an integrated view of multiple proprietary and publicly available datasets to help drive better real-time decisions," the market research firm observes.

Looks like it's time for Western enterprise mobility firms to set up a presence in India, if they don't have one already.
