Intel announces Atom launch lineup
Last week, we reported that Intel's Atom platform was set to arrive at a low price point, allowing manufacturers to create cheap MIDs and UMPCs based on the chipset. Today, we have the full details on Atom's launch lineup, which is looking quite robust. There will be five different chipsets in all, ranging from 800Mhz and 0.65W TDP at the low end ($45) all the way up to 1.86Ghz and 2.4W TDP ($160) on the high end. That's good news for device manufacturers, who will have a good deal of flexibility when trying to strike the right balance between performance, power consumption and price. According to Intel, Atom will start shipping to manufacturers within the next 60 days.
