iPhone 4 sells out on a pre-order basis
The new iPhone 4 (NASDAQ: AAPL) is sold out on a pre-order basis, despite major problems both Apple and AT&T (NYSE: T) had in taking orders Tuesday.
Tuesday night, AT&T's website returned the message "Pre-orders for iPhone temporarily suspended" when attempts were made to reserve an iPhone 4. Radio Shack's official Twitter account indicated the company ran out of its iPhone 4 supply approximately 90 minutes after it began taking reservations for the phone at some of its stores.
The sell out of the iPhone 4 happened a lot faster than last year's sell out of the iPhone 3GS inventories. It took five days in in 2009 for AT&T to run out of pre-order reservations.
U.S. customers who want an iPhone 4 on June 24 will have to buy one at an Apple, AT&T, Best Buy, Radio Shack or Wal-Mart stores on that day.
