Live from CTIA: Good reports iOS surge in enterprise
SAN FRANCISCO--Good Technology released its first quarterly data report that shows Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 4 is the most frequently activated device among Good's global enterprise customers.
Good's data was gathered between May 1 and Sept. 30 so that means within two months of its launch, the iPhone 4 was already the most activated device in the enterprise. Overall, counting both the iPhone and the iPad, Apple iOS devices represented more than 50 percent of new activations in that four-month time period.
Meanwhile, Android devices represented nearly 30 percent of all net new activations over that period, up from less than 20 percent in the first quarter, January to April. The Droid X was the most frequently activated device in September. Windows Mobile devices represented 15 percent, as Good also serves a number of government entities that rely on more ruggedized devices.
Good also said that more than 40 percent of its customers support both iOS and Android devices, while nearly 20 percent support devices on three or more platforms.
Good currently provides security, device management and enterprise mobile email to the enterprise, but Dimitri Gilles Volkmann, vice president of Enterprise Product Management, indicated the company add a number of features to its offering in the coming months, with the first introduction this quarter being a secure browser that delivers secure access to the backend. Another addition will be corporate instant messaging with presence capability. Good also plans to open up its platform so that enterprises can add their own applications.
"We envision an enterprise catalog that will only be available to an organization's users," Volkmann said.
