Livewire Mobile inks digital music deals with Sprint, MetroPCS

Livewire Mobile will power digital music services for Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) and MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS), managing sales of full-track downloads, ringtones and ringbacks for both operators.

Livewire will now oversee the Sprint Music Plus application, which launched in April 2011 in partnership with digital entertainment services firm RealNetworks. Sprint Music Plus touts DRM-free songs priced between $0.69 and $1.29 as well as ringtones and ringbacks--subscribers can search for content by artist, title or keyword, access recommendations based on their musical tastes and create custom playlists via the app's music library manager tool. All purchases are charged directly to the subscriber's monthly Sprint bill. Sprint Music Zone is available for download from the Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Play storefront--subscribers may also access the service via the mobile Web.

Livewire also will support MetroPCS Music, which is preloaded on all of the carrier's Android devices. MetroPCS additionally offers music services in partnership with Rhapsody.

Livewire Mobile runs digital entertainment services for carriers in nine countries. The firm recently introduced Rumpus, a free music discovery app for Android devices.
