Intel-owned security tech firm McAfee unveiled WaveSecure, a new data protection application optimized for consumer devices running Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS mobile operating system. The WaveSecure solution, which touts tools for securing mobile data in the event of device loss or theft, follows on the heels of McAfee's Enterprise Mobility Manager software targeting professional iOS users.

WaveSecure for iPhone includes remote location tracking as well as Web-based console access to help consumers locate their missing device. Within the app itself, users may also wirelessly back up contacts, photos and videos, and restore or wipe contact information. WaveSecure for iOS is available for download from Apple's App Store for a one-time fee of $19.99.

Last week, McAfee teamed with Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) to introduce McAfee Mobile Security and McAfee Family Protection Android Edition, a pair of mobile applications designed to help subscribers protect their phones and related data from loss, theft and malware. McAfee Mobile Security enables Sprint customers to locate and track lost phones via the Web, back up contacts, photos and videos, and access their personal data from virtually any location, while McAfee Family Protection Android Edition touts Web filtering to restrict children from exploring inappropriate content, complete with blocks for certain media categories and specific websites.
