Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone unlikely until March

Rumors have been swirling around the future of Microsoft's mobile future. First, a rumor indicates that the Surface Phone is coming soon, perhaps in October, according to a report by The Independent.

The Surface Phone is expected to come out with the power of a Surface tablet device inside a mobile phone and feature specs such as 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space, the report said.

The second rumor suggests that the launch of Windows 10 Mobile operating system for older Windows Phones is being pushed out beyond February.

Earlier this month, Microsoft's Mexican subsidiary announced on Facebook that the OS would arrive on all Windows Phone devices by the end of February, reported Softpedia. However, no official date has been given by Microsoft.

At the same time, Microsoft just delivered Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.107 to Windows Insiders, and another cumulative update could be coming this week, according to Microsoft leakster @Core.

Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.122 was compiled on Feb. 22 and listed on BuildFeed, so it is likely it will be available for Windows Insiders this week, possibly on Tuesday, Softpedia predicted. This makes it unlikely that Windows 10 Mobile will be pushed out to Windows Phone devices before March.

Whatever happens, Microsoft needs to take decisive action fast to prevent its mobile devices from slipping into oblivion and becoming irrelevant as an enterprise option.
